The Australian Broodmare Sale on Friday, May 9, brought a grand total of \(77,060,150 across various sales events, a shot above the previous record of \)65,973,000. The Sydney series became a spectacle for both sellers and buyers worldwide. According to Breednet, the sales attracted attention due to their unprecedented success and awe-inspiring highlights.
Remarkable Achievements
Throughout the week, the Australian Weanling Sale stood out with a record gross and unmatched individual top price, reaffirming its prominence in the national sales scene. The Chairman’s Sale followed suit with extraordinary growth figures including a record-breaking largest sale of $4.2 million. Sebastian Hutch, the CEO of Inglis Bloodstock, expressed his delight over these phenomenal accomplishments.
“It really has been a week we dream about – fabulous catalogues, enthusiastic buyers, happy vendors and a great spectacle all round,” Hutch shared. “To gross over $11m more than the record for this week of sales is really quite incredible.”
Celebrated Sales
The young mare Zelify (Snitzel), in foal to Ole Kirk, highlighted the Australian Broodmare Sale, being purchased by Omen Thoroughbreds for $280,000. Jo Griffin of Lime Country Thoroughbreds revealed it had been a great week, with plans to offer a lovely Pierro filly at future sales.

Following this exceptional series, the Inglis Breeding Stock Sales Series now turns its attention to the Melbourne Great Southern Sale, scheduled for June 12 and 13. The digital realm is also buzzing with the May Online Sale, featuring a striking 531 entries. A particularly noteworthy entry includes a share in the renowned young stallion, Extreme Choice.
